Maps are very beautiful pieces of art, they seem to tell a story and reveal a piece of history all at the same time. They act as a historical piece as well as a fantastic decorative work. Many people like to use maps as a way to decorate because they offer so much more than a typical painting or picture.

As a decorative piece, a map is eye catching and interesting. It is very possible to stare at a world map for hours and not get bored. It also seems to be different every time you look at it; you are always realizing something new. They also make a great conversation starter as well. A radius map can quickly spark a conversation about a trip or maybe a place you would like to visit.

Maps also add a dimension of color to the room without overpowering the furniture. They are interesting and they are also educational. Many people like to put up maps in their children’s play rooms to be educational and fun.

Maps can also be drawn or represented in many different ways, shapes and forms. Old, antique maps have all types of pictures around the framing and use more muted colors. In many of today’s maps, the colors are brighter and the print on them is typed. There are also globes which are a spherical representation of the Earth and there are artistic interpretations of a map as well.

No matter how you look at it, a map is an overall good decision when it comes to decorating a room. It offers diversity, life and is a great focal and conversational piece. The different types of maps are also perfect because a map can be placed in any room whether it is a children’s room or a living room. Overall, maps are just a great decorative accent.

Walking into someone’s home, one of the first things that you will most likely notice is the tone that the design sets; whether the room is fancy and sophisticated, warm and welcoming, or simple and natural. Each design element plays an essential part in setting the tone of the room; from the furniture and paint color to the decorative accessories. Ironically enough, one aspect of room design that often goes unnoticed is the window treatments. While it may seem easier to simply hang some plain vertical blinds, you can complete and enhance your rooms design with something more filing.
If vertical or horizontal blinds are your preference, there is a lot you can do to dress them up and give them a unique style. Many home goods stores carry a variety of curtains and drapes in many different colors and styles. With the assortment of curtains and curtain rods there is no limit to the styles and looks that can be created. If curtains are not your thing, consider a cornice. A single piece of carefully carved wood, a cornice can add style while maintaining simplicity.
For a natural look, there are many wooden blind and shutter options. With many color and material choices, blinds and shutters are ideal for many different design styles. Shutters are ideal for creating a warm yet classic look without all the extra fuss of curtains. To see a sample of the many different styles that are available stop in at any one of the numerous Next Day Blinds locations across the east coast.
Whatever your style, be it classical or modern, there are window treatments to fit. The next time you are decorating, or redecorating, your home do not forget to complete the design and add decoration to the windows.
Giving each room in your home a unique, distinctive feel is a modern interior decorating challenge. With the current state of the economy, more people are decorating on a budget. Finding something creative on a budget might seem like mission impossible, but it’s not. Quite often a room can be transformed by just one eye-catching signature piece. Finding just the right object to establish the room’s character is the key.

Getting creative with map shades

To liven up a library or a children’s playroom, consider using new or old wall maps as creative window coverings. Not only will your map shades be a distinctive focal point in the room, making use of the windows saves space on your walls for additional bookshelves or other maps, art and decorations. For kids, this can be a great way to foster an understanding and love for geography.

Wall maps for worldly cultures and exotic places

Wall maps are perfect for polishing off a room that celebrates a specific culture or geographic region. Here are some suggestions based on common décor themes:

Region-specific: Whether it’s Asia, Europe or any region of the world you drew inspiration from to decorate your room, call attention to the choice with a wall map of the area. To further play up the selection choose a frame that embodies the region. For example, bamboo frames work well to represent both Asia and island regions.

City Themes: To display your city pride, a skyline or antique map will give an artistic perspective of the city you love. Digital satellite maps, on the other hand, compliment a more contemporary or modern look.

Native American: Whether the feel you’re working to achieve is earthy, rustic or brimming with history, National Geographic’s Native American Heritage wall map will complete it.

Globetrotter: If your home is decorated with tokens from your travels around the world, distinctively showcase your overall passion for travel with a map of the world. For a more subtle statement, a high-quality World Atlas on your coffee table will look great and serve as an interesting conversation starter.
