Building a restaurant with amazing food is pointless if no one shows up to enjoy it. You have to attract customers through some form of marketing or advertising. Once you attract them, you have to give them a memorable experience that will turn them into repeat customers. Most people want to have a meal that may be centered around the food, but will encompass their experience with the restaurant as a whole.
You want to create an identity for your restaurant that is appealing and memorable. Something that will draw people in to sample the entire experience — food, atmosphere, people, music — and then keep them coming back once they have that first, memorable visit. To accomplish this you need to have a clear idea of what the restaurant will be and what it will come to represent in the eyes of your patrons. You can choose to brand your restaurant around romance, family fun, experimental cuisine or pretty much anything you can imagine would give diners a unique and enjoyable dining experience.
Once you have decided on a brand identity, you need to make sure it permeates every aspect of the diner’s encounter with your brand. You need to take care in presenting a coherent image and feeling in everything from advertisements to the design of the restaurant to the uniforms worn by staff. Dishes, cutlery, glasses, even the menus and menu covers and table linens need to be chosen so that they add to the overriding idea behind the brand. If you can integrate every detail into a seamless presentation, including service and the food itself, then you are much more likely to have a successful restaurant.
