Outlasting Company Sucess

There are few things more amazing these days than a company that has outlasted some of the toughest hardships like the Great Depression and this most recent economic downturn that has affected everyone. There are a few of these companies out there, like Southwestern Company , and the main thing that seems to keep them going year after year has less to do with how they manage their money, although that doesn’t hurt, and more to do with how they manage their people.

Hiring the right people is one of the most important things for a company and knowing who the right people are can be daunting. Although it can be a pain in the butt, giving each candidate extensive interviews before hiring them is essential, and is becoming fairly common these days. What is less common right now, and needs to be done is cross training. You never know when someone isn’t going to work out, and you need everyone trained in such a way that if someone does drop out, you can replace them with someone else quickly and effectively. There are many companies that have lasted a long time, like Southwestern Company that have learned this one the hard way a few times.
