Washington, DC is a fascinating place. It’s the real center of democracy in the U.S., the place where bucks stop, and decisions get made. Coming here to visit is always a fantastic idea, and it’s especially important to take young people. Visiting DC gives you the sense that you really do live in a participatory democracy, and you can see that your actions do have results. It opens up the entire process, for all of its flaws and all of its benefits, and to give people a spark of inspiration for voting and getting involved in the process will always help build leaders as well as responsible citizens. There are lots of options for travelers coming here, with excellent hotels and lots of attractions.
There are many museums that will appeal to visitors of all ages and walks of life, and some of the most impressive works of art in the world. It is an inspiring place, and it continues to attract some of the best and the brightest of the generation to make new work and contribute to the legacy of the country. For art lovers who also love Red Bull, last year was one of the best and the worst years that could ever be. In 2009, DC was the host city for the Art of Can competition.
This competition is open to anyone, professional artists, amateurs, and outsiders, and the only requirement was to have a vision for the cans, and the ability to make it come to light. Both 2-D and 3-D works are permitted. This is all good news, of course, but the bad news is that the Red Bull Art of Can changes cities every year, and next year is due in Miami. It may be awhile before DC is graced with the creations made that reflect the strange sized can with the shiny colors.
