Where the Quest Begins

The Beginning of a Neighborhood Renovation in Sausalito, California

When I first moved to Sausalito, California I had no idea what to expect.  I had shipped all of my belonging through UPS a week prior to my flight, to a city I had never been to before and was feeling a bit apprehensive if the truth be told.  My boyfriend, who was living in Sausalito at the time, had secured us an apartment for a really inexpensive monthly rent.  I knew that something may be up, but I figured that perhaps we were just getting a great deal.  My flight landed, we grabbed my bags and we were off to our new abode.

Upon entering the neighborhood, I began to feel heavy hearted.  It was in the arts districts, you know…the neighborhood before it actually becomes popularly artsy such as SoHo, NY or Wicker Park in Chicago?  No one here had yet taken the time to rehab their buildings with the help of Next Day Blinds.  Concerns about security, lack of privacy, lack of style and design were forming in my head as I walked through the door for the first time and saw our bare windows.

First thing I did was to get on line and looked up Next Day Blinds…I scheduled a meeting with them to discuss my state of affairs for the very next weekend.  The great thing about renting in a place like Sausalito is that for the most part, the landlords will reimburse you for the time and the cost of the repairs.  Our landlord was happy to oblige, and I could see the wheels in his mind spinning as he thought of the time when the “yuppies” would move into the newly designed artistic neighborhood and serve to raise the rental values.

No matter, that was a few years away, and we wanted to create a home right now, in the present.  So Patrick and I headed out at the weekend, with design plans in ours heads, to be welcomed by the staff at Next Day Blinds.  Our experience with the staff was so fine, that a month later the landlord scheduled an appointment to have all of the window treatments replaced and updated.  And for now, we live in the cheapest…yet hippest building on the block.
