Delhi and a Bubble Bath
I had too much of an amazing time in Sri Lanka. I really loved it. On my second to last day, I decided that I should travel up closer to the airport. When I was in Hikkaduwa, I was too far away, and this cause me much stress about making my flight. So, I took the train to Colombo, then walked in the extreme heat to the bus station. This local man helped me located the correct bus to Negombo. It’s a tourist resort just north of Colombo and it’s near the airport! I only stayed one night; it was being next to the airport that was the key for me. I was backpacking it, and I pitched my tent and went straight to sleep, and around 4am I was awoken by mozzies biting me inside my mozzie net! They were really unbearable.
Negombo seemed touristy to me, there were a few resort, a few big hotels and tons of vacationers wandering about. I must say though, it was very nice to get a chance to visit there.
Then, I flew to Delhi. The flight was full of turbulence and because of this, it took us 4 hours to land. Even though I was backpacking it through most of India, here is where I made reservations at one of the four star hotels in Delhi. I always make one reservation for one night. This is so I can take an nice hot shower and sleep in luxury, oh and get room service! My room was great and had a spectacular view.
Delhi is everything I imagined and a lot more. The multitude of colours, the smells and sounds. There’s dirt and filth everywhere. Cows wandering in the middle of a four lane highway full of rickshaws, tuk-tuks, buses, people on carts, beggars, backpackers, people pushing carts, locals, upper Delhites and the spitters. I wasn’t too far from the backpackers area, it’s near the Delhi train station. Today, I thought I’d wander down to Connaught Place in New Delhi. It’s a more affluent area, nice restaurants, designer shops and my walk there and back was very adventuresome. I was exhausted, so went to my room early and took a very long hot bubble bath and ordered steak and beer. Tomorrow, I’m off to explore old Delhi.
