The Blue Mountains of Australia
Tomorrow I will actually do a day excursion so I can take a look at the Blue Mountain just outside of Sydney. I knew there were all kinds of planned day trips offered by coach, but I decided to study the guidebooks so I could do my own thing, I figured it would be a long day trip, most likely run well past sunset, and was pondering if I check out of one of the best hotels Sydney Australia has, and make a reservation with a hotel in Katoomba, the main town of the Blue Mountains. I decided to keep my room here in Sydney. I really like the hotel and the killer deal I got here.
I drove to Katoomba and found what my guidebooks described as the viewing platform located at the Three Sisters at Echo Point. It’s three large rock formed pinnacles and the perch at the edge of a gorge covered over by tons of trees. I was stunned by the view even though there was a persistent haze hanging over the trees down below. But the blue sky was striking up against how green the trees were.
I walked on a path along the cliffs top and then down into the trees below. The path was nice, it was mostly empty and wound through the forest all along the ridge, it then cuts down these rock cut out steps, which were very cool, leading to the valley floor. There was a boardwalk at the end of the path and I caught a cable car back up the the top of the cliff. Nice set-up. While I was in the forest, it was lush with these huge Jurassic type of flora and fauna and the temperature was so much more cooler than up on the ridge. The bird life was amazing, I actually think it must be a rainforest, because it was so moist down there compared to the rest of Australia. I finished the whole walk in just over an hour. The cable car back to the top was an old mine cart trail that was converted into a fast rail trip back to the top.
It was very late, and I should’ve booked a room at one of the hotels in Katoomba, but I managed to stay awake during my drive back to my hotel in Sydney. So, I do recommend that if you plan to go to the Blue Mountains from Sydney, book a room in Katoomba, it will save a lot of worry about making it back to Sydney safely.
