Where the Quest Begins

New North Carolina

North Carolina is not the ‘deep south’ any more an amazing transformation has happened over the years and the southern state with sleepy cities has woken up and the cities becoming world contenders with the business and manufacturing there. The transformation of cities like Raleigh from run down and forgotten a center of tobacco production to an international hub for furniture design and manufacturing being the home of a number of large high end furniture manufacturing and the design show events hosted there. Charlotte is now a financial capitol with a number of the major financial institutions of the US based there, becoming the Wall St of the south. So we went to North Carolina to see for ourselves, we were pleased and surprised at the mix of old and new tradition and modern. Staying at a Charlotte luxury hotels in down town Charlotte near the towers that house the financial power houses of the Wall St of the south. We flew in late one afternoon and got a car at the air port and headed to the hotel. Ready for dinner we were pleased to find there was a restaurant featuring locally grown organic fare across the street. Eager to try it out we headed over there once we freshened up from our long flight from San Francisco. The meal was lovely, the little eatery was quaint and charming in a mid 19th century brick building with big shop windows overlooking the street. I always enjoy watching people pass by in the street when eating. Fun to watch and can make for some good conversation depending on the characters passing by. All the food was freshly prepared and much of it organic. Everything was prepared from locally grown and produced foods. This far south the variety was vast in the summer time. Many dished offered were vegetarian and even vegan dishes. We got the scoop on local places to goo and hang out in the evening and what to see from the friendly staff at the restaurant. It was a great start to a great visit.
