Where the Quest Begins

Hong Kong in the Summer

If one happens to be booking a Hong Kong hotel during the summer months of June through August, it is best to make certain that the accommodations will have the particular amenity of an air conditioning system.  The word for Hong Kong during this season is humid, humid and hot, and walking around the city one may feel as though they are swimming through a very hot, very thick bowl of soup.  The weather can shift dramatically during this time as there is the constant threat of severe thunderstorms and the notoriously bad typhoons.  Unless it is completely necessary to be in city during this time, it is best to make travel arrangements around this time of the year.

However, should one find themselves in the city during summer, there are a few steps one can take to make the heat a little more bearable, and their are some attractions that serve to take the edge of off the hot summer days and nights.  First of all, one should pack a variety of shorts and t-shirts.  Not glamorous, but the light weight material is really the only option in such extreme humidity.  The sun shines very brightly, so some even opt for long sleeves should they have the kind of complexion that burns easily.  It is good to carry an umbrella at all times.  One of the ways in which to escape the heat is to take the Hong Kong Tram up to Victoria Peak.

Stations are located for the tram throughout the city, and the price for a one way ticket ranges from one dollar to three dollars.  Climbing up Victoria Peak on the tram, is one of the most picturesque and traditional ways of ascending the mountain.  There is a city bus that offers just as beautiful scenic views however.  The tram has been operating for more than one hundred years, and climbs the steep mountain side at some somewhat frightening steep angles.

However once one makes it to the top, not only is the view of the city incredible, but the temperature is drastically lower, as well as the level of humidity.  In years past, as well as in current times, many wealth people have built their homes atop the peak.  Nowadays, celebrities and rock stars from around the world call the Peak their home.  This is such a desirable area that the real estate on Victoria Peak is the most expensive in the entire world.  This is a beautiful place to escape the heat should one be visiting Hong Kong in the summer.
