Discovering Sydney Harbour
People who have traveled the world, and the harbours of the cities in those travels, most often times agree that the harbour in Sydney, Australia is perhaps the most beautiful. And for those who visit the city for the first time they tend to agree. The shoreline along the harbour is two hundred and forty kilometers long, and the water of the bay is just about fifty four square kilometers of clear blue water. This is one of the largest of bay waters, and many locals and tourists enjoy exploring the large area via sailing or catamarans, or jet skis or cruises.
There are many extravagant homes than sit on the shores, as well as some top restaurants. Sydney however is also home to large areas of parks and nature reserves, as well as the gardens that serve to balance it all out. Environmentally speaking. Most of the harbour’s edge is open and ready those taking long walks or having picnics along the water’s edge. While walking along the shores is a great way to view the harbour, the best way to experience it is to be out on the water.
There are many options for excursions, such as the likes provided by the Sydney Ferries company. This is a governmental run company, so the prices are very inexpensive, allowing many to see this beautiful body of water, as well as the views of the city and the architecture from the water. Circular Quay is the hub of the harbour, and is located at the end of the business district. From this Quay it is a convenient and short walk to either the Taronga Zoo.
The famous Bondi Beach is also located in this area. Private companies also provide many options for cruises, and will head out to just about every region of the bay, from just about every part of the harbour. The prices vary, and the length of the cruise is any from a short trip, to an evening out on a dinner cruise, while watching a cabaret show or a jazz band and a night of dancing. One of the best ways to see the bay, which also happens to be free, is to simply walk across the Sydney Bridge. As it is the center of the city, it is a must see location, no matter which way one goes about doing so.
