Ibiza Sports: Air, Land and Water

The island of Ibiza, just off the coast of mainland Spain, has long been known as one of the party capitals of the world.  And while it is true that in Ibiza restaurants and dance clubs abound offering up a variety of ways experience the nightlife the island has become so famous for, there is much to do during the daylight hours.  Ibiza’s mild climate proves to be a perfect setting for sports and activities on land, and the mild temperature of the surrounding waters of the Mediterranean provides the perfect environment for all types of water sports, on top of the sea as well as far below its clear depths.  During the summer, the temperature of the water is a soothing 18 to 26 degrees Celsius, making it one of the most desirable spots in the world for diving and snorkeling among other outdoor vacation spots.

A favorite way for vacationers to experience the island’s beauty is by para sailing or hang gliding.  There are also helicopter tours for those who feel safer with a driver and a motor, not just the element of the wind.  The green of Ibiza’s flora and fauna, the deep blue of the water and the air, all this is so breathtaking when experienced from a bird’s eye view.  A thrilling way to spend an afternoon or an evening just at sunset.  For those who prefer to keep both feet firmly planted on the ground, there are many tours, excursions, and activities to choose from.  Renting a bicycle built for two is a nice way to enjoy the boardwalks and the coast.  The weather is perfect for tennis or golf on one of the many world class golf courses.  Horse back riding and jeep tours are another popular way to see the island and have some excitement while doing so.

If it’s one’s goal to get out on, or under, the water, then Ibiza is the place to do so.  There are many options for on the water tours and sports.  For sports, there are many places one can go to either rent equipment or to take instruction.  From jet skis or catamarans, to wind surfing or navigating a banana boat, if the goal is to experience the ocean in this immediate way then there is a lot of opportunity to do so.  Some activities require instruction or certification, of which both may be acquired through the various schools and resorts.  For underwater adventure, the waters surrounding the island are like no other.  The warm, clear blue provides the perfect backdrop in which to view the marine life, be it the wondrous variety of fish and creatures or the coral reefs and coves.  Scuba-diving or snorkeling, both provide one with the experience of being right there with nature.  The island offers many options as far as schooling and lessons, from beginner to advanced, this is one way to make a trip to the island memorable.
